A Battle For Medical Education: A Perspective After War

A massive number of Indian students witnessed the rapidly escalating Russia –Ukraine dispute in last few days. Indian government, taking the complete responsibility, recently airlifted around 13000 students back to their homes with utmost safety and nearly 18000 students have crossed the Ukraine borders under the Indian Humanitarian relief “operation Ganga”.

This is not the first time when Indian Government came to aid for such student. It has been a recent event when pandemic emerged from the states of China, a large group of students were airlifted from the China and all the other concerned countries.

While addressing the budget honorable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi raised rather a plea than a question that why is our government not allotting a site for medical studies and how our private sectors can become more active part in resolving the issue.

Like many other subjects medicine is given a relatively higher importance in India and has remained better alternative for making more money. Unlikely, the criteria for getting an admission for same is very tough. At the national level, 60% of Indian medical colleges are in the private sector. Hence much more costly than the governments colleges. Amongst 20 to 25 thousand of students going to foreign countries every year for medical education find it easier and cheaper to get an admission outside India.

To address these problems the government of India is now planning to create more space in medical education. Along with this India is also aiming to reach to the position to become the Global paramedic help one day. This sparks the ray of hope in many aspiring doctors to have a safer and cheaper medical education in their homeland.
